| Modern Warfare 2 Most Pirated Title of 2009 |
According to TorrentFreak, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been downloaded illegally nearly 4,100,000 times for PC in 2009, topping the list after only releasing just two months ago. Provided these numbers are indeed accurate, Activision has potentially lost more than $245 million in sales on the PC version alone. The Sims 3, Prototype, Need for Speed Shift, and Street Fighter IV help round off the top five for the year, all of which appeared on the PC platform. New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the highest downloaded Wii title with 1,150,000 downloads. The report notes the total download figures for this year double that of last year's numbers, and that PC remains to be the target for torrent downloads, with more than three times that of the Wii and Xbox 360. | EA Going After 'Call of Duty' With Bad Company 2 |
Electronic Arts hopes to dethrone rival Activision and its Call of Duty franchise as king of the first-person shooter genre, and looks to do so with a few of its upcoming titles.During the 37th Annual Global Media and Communications Conference in New York City today, CEO John Riccitiello stated he's going after Activision's successful franchise, and believes the upcoming release of Battlefield Bad Company 2 is the starting point. "Call of Duty, a title I'm very much targeting at taking back, started as million unit franchise, and it built to being more than 10 million," Riccitiello said. "But often, in a category as competitive as this, a title can get tired." "I think were at that point. And I think [Bad Company 2] represents our best opportunity of taking the first-person shooter business back from Activision." Riccitiello later continued on to say Bad Company 2 does have its advantages over Modern Warfare 2." "I think it does online better, it's got destructible environments, and driveable vehicles, which makes it much more interesting from an open-world perspective," he said. "I think there's room for both, but we have our competitive juices flowing. "We've taken it back from the skate category [with the Skate series]. [The first-person shooter genre] is next." "We're going after this with a vengeance," Riccitiello stated. Electronic Arts recently announced the revival of the Medal of Honor franchise, which will take the series to modern day Afghanistan. |
| Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer hands-on |
| Infinity Ward has finally lifted the curtain on Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode at an exclusive hands-on event in LA. Now we've had a chance to sit down with it here's a quick burst of facts that we've learned so far. More to come later... A quick description of some of the new maps we've played... Afghan: A rocky desert area with the ruin of a jumbo jet in the middle. We'd avoid hanging around here for too long as it's surrounded by some high cliffs and bunkers that snipers will love. We suspect most of the action will come at the top and bottom of the map where caves and ledges make everything a bit more intense. Favela: A claustrophobic shanty town broadly divided into high-up rooftops and narrow ground level passageways. Highrise: A more unusual urban setting, Highrise comprises of a half-finished highrise building with interior and exterior areas and a series of metal beams high above that can be used a sniper points. If you're clever it's possible to work your way from one side of the map to the other without being detected to launch a surprise attack from behind. PERKS.... [ Read the rest ... ] |
